Trail running love

So, I did not say 2 weeks without running, right?

I made it 6 days without running. Six days is a long time when not injured, not sore, and otherwise feeling great, right? Right?

Yesterday I went running in the Middlesex Fells with a couple of friends. It was a beautiful day! We ran the Skyline trail, which is a 7.5 mile technical trail, with lots of steep inclines, rocks and roots. I had a couple of close calls where I almost ended up kissing the ground. I have not done any technical trail running in a while, and have forgotten about lifting my legs up and watching the terrain closely. Aside from some magnificent views, the nice thing about running this trail is that, due to its steepness, the pace is rather slow. It took us 1:35 minutes to run the trail, and I tell you, my HR was up on those inclines. Every year there is a race on this trail and a few years ago I won this race (they made it 8 miles) with a 1:20 time. So, I think running a 12-13 min/mile is much closer to walking than running, so I am all good:)

Look at these pics. Ah, I am so happy to be able to run trails again!

Wow! Only 6 days off and your first run was almost an 8 miler on trails?! I'm impressed. I still haven't run that far since Steamtown. Its great that you are feeling so good!

The problem with trail running is that beautiful views distract from watching the trail and vice versa. There is nothing better though and it is a great workout all the leg and core muscles.

You won it? Man you slipped that in. Well done girl and I can totally agree with you - trails are good for core and quads AND the soul and take you out of the numbers game.

Nice pictures. No wonder you got tempted and could not stay still any longer.
I love trails for easy runs, for races not so much.

Btw, thanks a lot for the comment on my blog. I posted an answer there.

I love trails too!! We did 13 miles on the trails near our parents' house today. We ran with a group of 20 friends. Our trails are endless, i ran 31 miles there a few weeks back with no repeats. Trail running is sooooo relaxing!!! And its such a good workout eventho its slow. Thanks for sharing the pics!!! I gotta take some pix of my trails too to share the beauty. Thanks!

Trails just nurture the soul, especially after you hefty training schedule. So happy you had fun with good friends, too!

Trail running is tough! But I do think it's a great way to recoup from marathon training/racing--change in terrain, softer, usually very casual instead of the usual competitiveness. Beautiful pics!

I'm just jealous of people who have pretty places to run. I run trails but they are ATV trails and the inclines are road approaches. Not pretty, not nearly as challenging as that trail but I guess they somewhat do the job for me! Glad your feeling well and recovery is coming along nicely! Fun to get out there with your friends!
