I left the house at 5:45 this morning, and got back home at 7:36. I was busy with no breaks from 6:30 to 2:45, and then ran to the Hynes Convention for a workshop where I gave a talk. I left the meeting at 6:30. I am beat. And no run, good thing it is taper. Why do I tell you this? Because I am so grateful that this is not a typical day for me. It made me realize how lucky I am to have the job I have, the family I have, to live in the neighborhood I live in, to have the friends I have, to be able to train like I do. Everything is fitting together nicely and there are no real struggles.
Is taper making me dippy? Not sure, but I really wanted to document these thoughts, for later. What taper is truly doing is making my hair shiny, my nails pretty, my legs softer and my face rounder (these may not necessarily be taper related, rather they are likely due to dropping the nr of hours I train/per week to half since the HIM). I take the good with the bad, I supposed. As long as these legs can run, I could care less if they are less muscular (that's what she tells herself!).
Anyhow, running is minimal, 8.5 miles with a 3 2 1 2 3 1 2 @ 3K-10K on Monday, 6 miles @ MP to MP-11 on Tuesday, nada today, 11 miles with 2X4MP, a couple of 4-5 milers with 8X10 hill strides and a 13 miler easy (should I keep it easy, I want it MP, no, I'll keep it easy with maybe 3 MP miles at the end, how is this for a compromise). Then next week even less running, I can do this, I think I can, I think I can.
All this Kona/Chicago marathon talk is making me want to go race! I both want to race and get the race over with, because then I can go play triathlon prep and: 1) get myself fitted for a bike, 2) buy a bike, 3) buy a trainer, 4) start masters swimming, 5) plan my racing season, 6) finish/use the 4 triathlon books that I am currently skimming. Oh, and rest for 2 weeks, yes, that, too!

you CAN do it, I know you can, I know you can!!! :)
I would say that you are now officialy a triathlete who runs, not a runner who does triathlons as you used to be. You should change your blog name, swap running and tri-ing :)
Dang girl, you make me tired! Taper time is the worst, but it's good for ya. Good Luck!
whew, busy day! good thing it's taper or you may be a touch crabby over missing the workout ;)
i love how you are already thinking about what's next, but i know that's just how you are! i am excited about the tri-talk - i think you can really excel in multisport!
I feel the same way with about the races this weekend, I want to be out there so bad.
But I must remember to trust the taper.
Your last paragraph made me STOKED for you.
you are gonna ROCK the tri season next year. so fun and exciting! So glad you're getting a bike, fit y trainer!
I like Julie ALOT, she will be passed my Chrissie on the bike and if Corbin is within 5 mins of her out of the water, Corbin is the second fastest woman on the bike.
I love guessing, anything can happen in 140.6 miles, but I can see julie and corbin battling it out for 3rd.
As for buying a bike, they are like cars, when the 2011 models come out, the 2010 models go on clearance, you can get a 2010 model for 30-40% off in about a month if not now.
I know, I've been excited for Kona and Chicago all week, it's going to be a fun weekend!
It sounds like the tapering is going pretty well, next week will fly by!
This is my first time reading your blog and let me say the Tri world inspires me. I don't like to swim but took lessons a few years ago hoping to overcome my discomfort in the water. I challenged myself to swim until I could swim a mile without stopping (flip turns by the dozens). I did it, why wouldn't I... challenge accepted, challeng done! HA I haven't been in the water since - I just don't like it.
So.... I'm training for my first ultra marathon in January (it's my version of the fun/punishing tri). I can run. I'm starting with a 35 miler just 20 minutes from home and hope to run a 50 in 2011.
I have a 12 planned today AND tomorrow - I love reading these blogs to inspire me.
You can do it! Good luck to you! More power! :)
I am STILL impressed with you even in taper - I'm sure it's doing you good.
Love the excitement in there - let us know what your plans are next year.
Hmm...sounds like a little taper madness? ha!
Kona did not disappoint, what a great race.
You are a busy lady with all your triathlon plans in place already...you make me feel like a slacker!
