Place: 3 overall women;
1st AG.
Pace: 6:20
This race was advertised as a 5k, but then at the race people started talking about it being a 3.2 race rather than a 5k. Big difference, people, for someone who is trying to break 20 min.
Anyhow, this will be a short race report.
Mile 1: 6:20 - managed to keep pace down, 2 women in front of me, could have passed them, but I held my pace down and kept my eye on the prize (sub 20). Felt great!
Mile 2: 6:14 - feeling great, great, great! Passing people left and right, 2 women still in front of me but I was on their heels.
Mile 3: 6: 32 - feeling great, and then all of a sudden I had vomit in my mouth (yes, I know!). I kept gagging. I felt great otherwise, breathing was fine, legs were happy. Darn! I slowed down, tried to vomit, couldn't do it, so started running again, swallowing in hopes of stopping the gagging.
.21: 5:51 pace - focused on not puking, but feeling great.
+++++
So, same result as last week, but, because of the longer course, the pace this week was 3 secs/mile faster than last week. My goal was to run a 6:20 pace, which would have been enough for a sub 20 assuming an extra .05, so I was where I wanted to be.
I talked a bit to the winners and some of the runners after the race and everyone concurred that the course was long. I was super careful to run tangents but that did not help. And it is not my Garmin, other people ran 3.25! In any case, I am happy about this race. Time for a 5K would have been 19:38, by the way! I'll make that official one of these races! I just need to find a time chipped, accurate race. For now, I have to figure out the vomiting issues! One runner told me that I need to run my first mile slower, so maybe I should try that. The thing is, I always have vomiting issues at the track, but never in tempos or races longer than 10 miles. It is so frustrating to feel great, I mean really great, comfortable breathing, no lactic acid accumulation (no post run soreness this week or last!), just the gagging and vomiting! GI system, just get the memo, will ya?
I won an hour sports massage, by the way! Very exciting. But more exciting was this little prize I got at the end of the race! Yes, no glamor shot here, this is how I look after working HARD, bulging veins on my forehead, sweat and salt on my face, love it, love it, love it!
And this is how I look when I lose my patience with Chris tryyyyyyyyyyyying to take a picture! Both Petru and I have the same expression: "Let's go, dad!" Funny!

That is SO ANNOYING! At least mentally you know you can do it. It will happen soon and it will be so worth it.
Sorry about the long course, but it sounds like you did AMAZING! Congrats on the AG and the massage. I have reall problems with holding back vomiting at the end of a half marathon or full marathon. Every time for the past two years. I think my problem is the excitement and anticipation. It's always coming down the shoot. Embarrassing - once I even had to cover my mouth. Good luck!
Great run! I'm sure you'll break 20 as soon as the race is the right length! That's annoying, but you know you made it. Cute pics!
You will get that sub 20 soon I know it. And you are accumulating those massage gift certs arent you:) i cant wait for a blog on your first massage!
Good running today!
Look at you! holy moly! Great race! i hear you on the 3.2 vs 3.1 but you gotta be proud!
nice. and love the pics;-0
I TOLD you you were speedy quick! You did what you set out to do. And LOVE the photos.
Congratulations on a great race. And...I love yr cute running shorts!
great job.
i did a short run after riding on saturday, i was running faster than I ever have and I felt the vomit feeling you have been talking about. i didn't think i was actually going to be sick but i think i was pushing myself more than I ever have.
LAME! i ran a "5k" once that was 2.95 miles, lol. so frustrating. great job tho!!! wow!
Puking? You earn extra credit according to my coach! lol. Nice work!!! So hard to hold your own pace when you are so close to passing someone. Congrats!!!!
Congrats!!! Look at you guys! Love the pics!
Congrats! Love the pics! Petru is so big and you look great!
That is a great result, and a great time too. I have no idea on the vomit front -- never happened to me. But I have never finished 3rd either!
ok, you are fast. 3.2 or not, that is an awesome time. I would definitely take a massage win over a plaque any day!!
That shot you hubby took it funny. Although it does make you look like you have super model legs up to there!! (also looking fab from tons of running no doubt!)
Regina: I agree! Maybe I should not complain about the fact that it takes forever for him to take a pic!!!
Your "official" sub-20 is just a matter of time. Still, you ran a very good race. BTW, nice legs!
UGGG this would make me crazy! stupid long course. you WILL get that sub 20 officially VERY soon, and now you know you can definitely do it!
LOVE your shorts!
Oh an extra .1 is a loooong way when you've got a specific time goal in mind!! Grrrrr! Yes- go find yourself an accurate course so you can go nail that 19! :))
Aron, those are Lululemon shorts. I absolutely love them!
Congrats to you!! Way to rock that 5k! God, you have the perfect running body..it is too bad that I can't just borrow it for a race or two:) You did great and I know that you will get your time to where you want it sometime soon! You are a rock star in my book:)
Damn, you are fast. That's all I can say.
Great race! Here's a 5K in Lowell on June 6th that's flat and fast. It's the same course used for a number of 5K's in Lowell including the turkey trot on Thanksgiving, a New Year's Day 5K, and the Super 5K on Super Bowl Sunday.
Thank you for your comment.
Congrats on the race. And you look really super athletic on those photos!:)
I forgot to tell you the trainer wko. ITs kinda specific to duathlons, you go back and forth from tempo and threshold bike work to doing 800's and on the last one you have to try to have your fastest 800. IT is super fun but super hard:)
Rockin'! Way to go!
I hate that puking feeling. Means you worked hard!
Your PR is right there! Nice job, it'll be "official" any moment now. I'm still trying for the same thing...
I'm so sorry you didn't get your time you so badly wanted. I just ran a half marathon and my Garmin said I ran 13.23 miles. Now courses are exactly exact nor are Garmins 100% precise so I guess you never know if you're going to be a little bit long or a bit short, but dang, short would be nice, huh??? Great job pushing though that last mile when you were feeling aweful...and great job on the AG and 3rd overall...that's very impressive!!
