Running, racing, a great podcast and running music ideas

Running:
Really good running week for me. I feel pretty good about my short distance speed and about my endurance. I've surprised myself with some pretty awesome running which felt easy for the pace I was at. Sweet. I am constantly worrying about not slowing myself down enough, but if I go by effort, I am where I need to be. I ran 65 miles this week, including a 20 miler broken down into a 16 miler in the morning fastish, and a 4 miler in the afternoon slowish. My feet felt the mileage increase as I hopped out of bed this morning. I think my body is pretty resilient, but my feet have been my weak link for the past year. I've managed to keep things at bay, and will just have to continue doing so, hoping that they will toughen up. I have really skinny boney, no padding type feet, probably not the best for running, but what can you do? I also managed to get my first arch blister - no idea how it happened as I did not wear new shoes or socks - and it hurt like a mother!

Next week I will drop my mileage to 55 to give my body a break, as I have been building mileage for the past 3 weeks. I plan to get a swim in, and maybe even some biking. The weather is gorgeous in MA, and I am hoping to be able to continue running in shorts for a while.

Racing:
With so many friends racing, I got a bit of a case of FOMO this past week, ha! I managed to restrain myself from registering for a race, but am considering a Fresh Pond baseline race this Saturday, if we are around (plans still in the air). I managed to walk slowly away from the computer and distract myself when I was getting really close to signing up for a 5K. I can't just go race one and training for one now does not fit my long term plan. Still, no guarantees that I will not just go do one before January.

A great podcast
I am getting into the ultrarruner podcast with Tim Waggoner (Lucho at jog hard). Great info for runners, very laid back and cool guy, super knowledgeable and NOT boring! Check him out:)

Music
I am bored with my running music. What's good on your playlist?

16 in the morning "fastish"?? Umm-that run was MUCH faster than fastish. 14 and 15?? Just plain wicked FAST- no ish about it-ha! Yes, you just go by effort. I often tease you about restraining your speed but really, you've managed to stay healthy, you've managed to stay HUNGRY, you are CONSISTENTLY improving. I'm not sure there is really any reason to slow yourself down:) Enjoy your cutback week. Climb a mountain or something for fun in your downtime-ha ha;)

An arch blister. This is new. Ouch! I've never had one of those! Incredibly jealous of your temps. Below zero this morning here!

I really am excited for you to head back to Fresh Pond:):) You know this! Also excited for you to run a 5K although I totally understand where you're coming from here (personally, I think you could PR right now though:)

AH-looking for new podcasts. I will check this out-Thanks!!

I have raced the past two weekends but still have LONGER race envy. I am thinking I need to register for the Hampton Half so I know I have that one to look forward to. I just saw a 10 miler in Maine that looks good but doesn't work with my school vacation.

great week! This post resonates with me on many levels...the itch to race (soon), walking away from the computer and restraining from registering for races in the next few weeks and the feet part. My feet (also bony with little padding) were really hurting a week or so ago but feeling better now. Do you post your workouts somewhere? Your 16 milers sounds awesome from Jenn's comment. I'm no good with music suggestions but I'll be back to check if anyone gives good suggestions.
Sorry about your arch blister. Hope you register for some races soon...you're one of my favorite people to virtually cheer for. Always exciting. and inspiring! So, question for you...what does "moderate" mean for you when it says run moderate? I'm sure the Run Faster book explains this but I have not finished reading it yet. moderate like pushing it but not hurting. Just under hard? Hope you have a great week AM! Thanks for the podcast suggestion. Always looking for those!

HI ANA, WHAT ABOUT AUDIOBOOK! THE MORE SCARY, THE MORE YOU RUN!

If you're not going to NH for turkey day you should totally run the turkey trot with me in Lowell. We could run the first two miles together and then you could take off! It would be fun and a good workout!

Sounds like your running is going awesome, but that doesn't surprise me. It is weird that you got an arch blister with no shoe or sock changes. In the past, I've had many arch blisters and they do hurt. I haven't had any recently, which is nice.

BTW I am running the Hampton and Quincy HMs. Should be fun!

Arch blisters really are the worst. And it sounds like you are getting in some serious mileage for the winter. Nice work!

Never had an arch blister and I don't want one! OW!! I have boney feet too. It must be a runner thing :)

What a great week. I am sure your 16 miles was pretty wicked fast. I will just speculate until you start sending me clues.

Glad you get a little cutback. Can't believe how ell you have just bounced right back from Bay state. Awesome!! Sure would like to see you do a 5k; I will wait patiently :)

Have a great Monday!!

was that 16 on a weekday?! nuts. hmm never heard of the skinny feet theory, but boo for foot blisters! no fun. at least it's nothing more serious?

i don't have a playlist (too lazy to make them ha) but i'm not sure if my style music is your style? basically anything top 40 / popular hip hop / pop... which then gets old when the radio overplays it.

My PT said that our feet pads wear down the longer we run and our feet just ache more. I am certainly feeling this, my feet throb to the point of severe pain sometimes. A bit more cushioned insole may help a little.

Nice mileage for the week, you are doing awesome!!

I lost my iPod...talk about needing music! UGH! Really, I think someone took it at the gym when I maybe dropped it. So I'm no help on tunes right now :(.

Have a very happy Thanksgiving, AM! Don't forget to join in on the blog gift exchange, if interested this year. :)

I left you a comment on your last post so if you don't get notifications, go check it out.

I don't know what to say about the arch blister. We get poeple in the store occasionally that have that happen to them out of the blue and I never know what to tell them. Hopefully it's just a one time thing.

Glad your enjoying and taking advantage of some great weather over there! Looking forward to seeing what your baseline looks like.

I'm bored with my music too! I've been considering listening to podcasts, as I've heard many do that. Or book on tape. I wonder how boring it would be!

Another member of the Bony Foot Club (BFC!), I see...

My theory is that while they hurt sometimes, bony feel are inherently lighter and better for speed;)

I just started running with an iPod again here recently, and the Black Keys are where it's at for me. Also my staples include Muse and even a little Coldplay for inspiration.
