Since I am planning on running doubles during Boston training, I decided to try and see how a double would fit into my Thursday schedule. I ran 8 easy miles in the morning with 8x30 secs sprints, and then ran again in the evening, 4 miles, while Petru had chess class at the Library. It felt wonderful to run a few fast intervals in the morning, and my legs loved that. In the afternoon, my legs did not want to slow, which was the plan. All the discomfort is now miraculously gone, and my R side of my body and I are friends again. Welcome back, legs!
So what do I have to say about running doubles? Thumbs up! The only con? Having to take 2 showers (though if I did not have to work, I would only take 1).
+++++
I don't do much advertising on this blog, but I could not resists telling you that "Lucy" is having a birthday sale (25% off) on Saturday all day. If you don't know about Lucy, you should. I first learned about them last year, when I read about the birthday sale on a running blog. I checked out the sale and purchased one pair of running tights (propel tights) which are my favorite by far. They are very similar to Lulu (e.g., flattering waist band, thicker material with a bit of compression) but less expensive (about half with the birthday sale discount). I now own 2 pairs of the Propel tights, and can attest that have been holding off wonderfully for about a year now. Check them out! You'll thank me later:)

Great to hear doubles got a thumbs up. I "threatened" to add doubles to my recent Cape Cod training, but alas, ended up w/ some shin splints and achilles pain before I could get into the doubles portion.
Maybe this training cycle....
such good news that the kinks have been worked out.
I just knew you and your addictive personality would LOVE the doubles. I think you will love them even more as you get back into your training.
oh thanks for the Lucy tip. I'm not a shopper, and lately, I've totally been relying on bloggers for shopping tips. Have you tried any of the other Lucy items - shorts, tops, skirts, etc?
So glad the doubles are working out for you! The schedule thing- with the showers, etc...that is a downside, but it sure works nicely for a few extra recovery miles!
Nice to hear the body is working without pain :)
Thanks for the tip on Lucy!
Forgot to say- we don't have chess at our library, but I found out there is a friday lego club! 3 and up!!! Wa-hoo!!!
Oh Geez... The last thing I needed to do is click on that link and now I have a full shopping cart. I am NOT thanking you-ha!
Great job on the double! Like I said, I really think you're going to do so well with these. Two showers a pain, yes. I don't have much issue with this as I naturally don't sweat...:) At least you have less hair to deal with now!
Glad to hear your right side is settling down. Welcome back speedy legs:)
YAY for legs that work, that's a plus for a runner :).
I've implemented doubles at times in my training and really do like them. Somewhere I recently read an article that said the perks are not a positive as if you run all your miles in one run/day....but I always say to each their own (if I find the article, I'll send it to you). It's all a game of trial and error, what works for one doesn't always work for another. Fun that you are experimenting with something new.
I was excited to see a post from you tonight...All this extra time on your hands since you're not in serious training mode= more of AM! Woot Woot! I saw a girl in Lucy pants today and thought her ass looked really great. Or maybe that was yesterday at the gym when I was waiting in line to drop Sam off at the child care. The lady had no idea I was staring at her butt but it was great advertisement for lucy.
I wouldn't shower 2 times if I didn't have to go into work either. Oh wait, I'm home AND I don't shower regularly now and I'm often one of those stay at home moms seen in black running tights, a hat, and a running top...um...EVERY FREAKING DAY!! Doubles will work well for my habits of living. :)
Chess club. I bet he's one smart kid!
Glad you're feeling better. Must have been those fartleks/sprints. xo
I've been having very similar post marathon hip issues, glad to hear that yours has healed...gives me hope that mine will eventually too.
I actually really like doubles. I have been doing one day a week of double days for a while now just because of my running social committments ;) I look forward to incorporating them into my training for the next race!
i sweat so fantastically that I almost always have to shower after, but that's the humidity for you. I like doubles, i feel uber productive and know that if one isn't going well I have another shot later!
Ooooh chess club. When did he start? I'm wondering how old Kaylee can be to start such a thing. Right now grampa is showing her a few chess moves (and lets her win every time).
Doubles, eh, not for me. At least not right now. I did it in college for awhile, but honestly feel that I'd be better off running 12 miles rather than splitting it into two runs. Obviously, it works well for lots of people, and maybe at some point it would work for me too...
So glad that you're fully recovered from the marathon! I see you kicking some serious butt this training cycle! ;)
I guess your legs just needed a little speedwork to loosen them up. Glad to hear they worked themselves out.
I've heard great things about Lucy. I love lulu so you had me at 'half the price'.
