Fun training day!

I took the day off and headed to Freetown with Chris for a day of training.

Plan: swim, bike, run, and have fun!

We got to the Cathedral Park and immediately got greeted with a "this is private property, you can't swim here". Oops. Nothing on the race site warned about this. Apparently the HIM has license for the weekend only. We took off and found a boat ramp less than a mile away, and I got a 25 min swim in. It was windy, the water was choppy and dark. I managed to get into a groove after a while and I think I can actually have fun swimming in choppy water, if it is clean! Moving on...

I changed quickly and Chris and I started riding. Again, the wind was strong. For the first 5+ miles I felt like I put in a ton of effort but going really slow (like 15-16 MPH). I stopped and noticed my L brake was rubbing onto the tire. I fixed it and wow, things fell into place. We rode 28 windy miles @ 18MPH (including the first really slow 5+ miles) in the wind, and I was pleased. My HR was 141, so fairly low effort. My legs felt great. My back, on the other hand, was on fire. I have been having back pain on the bike when my speed goes over 17.5-18MPH. It sucks big time and it worries me for the race. After the 28 miles we did 12 more before I started on for my run.

The run was awesome. My legs felt great. I ran 8.5 @ 7:35, HR 172. I had planned for 7 miles, but I got lost...

I feel pretty confident about my training right now. I feel strong and fit. If something goes wrong come race day, it will not be because of lack of fitness. I need to figure out the back situation, but otherwise, I am very happy with my fitness right now.

On Monday I plan a repeat of the quadruple brick (which was a lot of fun, by the way) then a couple of longer rides in the next week before taper! Excitement building up over here:)

I am looking forward to lots of fun races this weekend: Mooseman, Honu, Newport marathon! I hope everyone has a great race. Go tri/run FAST!

Sounds like you are having a lot of fun!
I wish you wrote more about your super brick. How was it, did it hurt, was it challenging? I need to try one of those!

I did my first tri on Saturday and it was fun. I might do it again:)

Hey girlie. I'll be honest, I just got home and have not read this post word for word like I usually do but I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for all your wise words and advice the past few months. Thank you. I'll be thinking of so much of what you have said to me when I am racing Saturday. :) So glad that you are feeling so strong in your training! Sounds like it is still fun so keep on keeping on! :)

You're on fire and you're right, nothing can go wrong there! You've got this and you're always been such a huge inspiration to me. Not sure I'd get my butt on tha bikek this weekend had I not ben reading about your love for the thing having solely a running background before.

Nialed it! Your totallying peaking right now, and that's obvious. I just got caught up on your other posts. Sounds like you've been knee deep in training. It's certianly paying off!

I wonder what's up with your back though. That's no good. It's strnage that it only bothers you when you go above 18mph. I wonder if your body tenses up with the momentum.

Thanks for the comment. I'm doing fine. My husband is home and we've been working on a HUGE yard project so I've been pretty worn out from that. I do have some other thigns on my mind that I'm on the fence about blogging about. Maybe you can sense it from all the way over there? :)

@ Kristen, yes, I wonder if I tense up. Must work on that and stay relaxed. Hope all is good with you:)

this wind thing is a prb for me. A good cross wind almost knocks me over!!!!!! I hope I don't encounter that at the race.

You do sound like your training is going well. Awesome!

Fun to take an off day and get some training in WITH your hubby!

You should DEFINITELY feel confident about your fitness! That's a great bike pace especially in wind and then to run at that pace afterwards. You've been consistently killing your workouts. YES, your fitness level will NOT be an issue in this race.

I wonder what's up with your back? You're going to do that crazy assed workout again on Monday! We have different ideas of fun-ha!

Lookin' good girl-2 weeks:)

I've thought about training for a triathlon in the past but it's the open water swim that puts me off. I guess that is a good reason enough to do it though: to face up to a fear and beat it.
Nice blog by the way.
Alison.

Hope the back eases up for ya! Pretty hard to go fast with the brake on...:))

Sorry you got kicked out of the race swimming hole! Way to try and get some insider knowledge, though.

Great training, A!!

just catching up here - sounds like things are coming together for you apart from the back thing - have you had anyone look at it?
