One of the reasons I read blogs is to learn.
One of the best blogs for learning is Elizabeth's Waterstraat's blog.
You may want to add it to your blog roll right now. It's that good.
A few days ago she posted a great article on overtraining, that made me pause and think. Ah, I love that. I went back and read the comments people left and they made me pause, and freeze, and really think.
It is easy to think of overtraining in terms of feeling low energy, burned out, and not being able to hit your times during workout. Most of us have been there in one form or another. It's part of finding your limits. We tend to think of stage 3 of overtraining, one that involves suppressed hormones, depression, feeling sick all the time as reserved for elites or those who maybe run a marathon every weekend. But real overtraining is more common than we think. It is dangerous. I can see it easily happening to me and to you. So read on, maybe post it on your blog, and lets spread the word and make sure that we don't let it happen to us!

I read the post you mentioned. You are right, it is good and it makes you think.
Although I am not doing any long crazy distances it still made me think. I better start being careful now because in 15 years might be too late, right?
It does happen more easily than you think... especially to older athletes. Not that we're old, but you know... I'm just saying!
Thanks, I read and reread that post and it was very helpful. I ultimately think that training smarter is the key, especially as we age. We can still get better AND smarter as long as we are thoughtful about what we're doing to out bodies.
Very very interesting. Thanks for the link.
I'm will be reading the recommended blog NEXT, because I am sure it's something I need to read. I am VERY cautious about hard days, easy days, but I have increased my mileage a LOT this fall which can easily lead to overtraining, especially at my "young age." Thanks for sharing. I read to learn too.
Must see cartoon - please go to Ironman 101's blog. He has a cartoon on his blog that shows the hair dryer at the gym that you mentioned. Gross!

So true! I've been there once and it wasn't pretty. I think I walk the line of it all the time--we do have to be careful.
thanks for the link, i am definitely going to head over there to read it!
i've been wondering if that was what is going on with me for awhile, so thanks for sending me to some good info
WOW!! Thank you for posting this. It really is so easy to fall into the overtraining cycle. Can't wait to add her blog to my reader, thanks for the link and thanks for the congrats:)
Great post!! I recently felt like poo, very tired runs were dragging. I wondered if this is what I had.
