..in a slow, painful, piercing kinda way!
No joke!
So I've heard about such problems from other triathletes, but on my road bike I've experienced none. I could go for miles and miles on my Fuji, with no chaffing or other such traumas. But after 10 min on Slice, I was on fire....not the kind of fire you'd want, though. I managed the 45 min but had to get out of aero every 14 min for 1 min. So help me...are my shorts to blame, are there any bike shorts that you've discovered that help with this problem, is it just a matter of getting used to the bike, is this going to get better? The aero position is awkward and uncomfortable enough without the "downtown" trauma!

Its a matter of getting use to it, the TT bike is not a naturally cycling position, more time in the saddle and maybe so kind of saddle cream
Were you on the trainer? I find my TT bike is much more comfortable outside. Although, I still have "issues" for sure. Definitely good shorts AND a good cream.
maybe a new seat.... I had to switch seats when I went from the RB to the TT bike. I find chamois cream doesn't really help. It's time in the saddle. Which sucks. But it seems the only thing that works.. by April you will be like steel... :)
sounds like yet another endurance test, which I KNOW you will get through. EEKKKK and YIKES!
Sorry I'm no help!
the tighter the shorts the better. And it might be the saddle. It's definitely some getting used to, but a lot of people just accept the discomfort and a good fitting bike/saddle/shorts isn't that bad.
But being on a trainer makes it all a little worse because it really keeps you in the exact same position. On the road you move a little bit because you're responding to traffic, avoiding things, winds, etc...
dont i know it! was on mine again last night - for a whopping 60 minutes - and was in terrible pain!
Hmmm. I do not have these issues. But then I have been riding a tri bike for 15 years. I don't use any of that cream or anything and pretty much always ride outside. IF the nose of your saddle is tipped up at all that can be seriously uncomfortable, so check that- maybe even have it pointed *slightly* down?
I have that pain even on a roadbike and everyone has told me to try chamois cream AND time on the bike. But yes I know that pain is like a KNIFE!
If fit properly, you shouldn't be having these issues. Might want to get your fit checked.
This may seem weird, but I cannot wear bike shorts on my tri bike. They just have too much padding for the aero position to be comfortable. Have you tried riding with your tri shorts? You might see if that helps! Also, make sure you still use chamois butter or some other anit-chaffing cream even on the trainer.
Shorts, cream and T.I.T.S (time in the saddle). ((HUGS))
I don't own a road bike, just a tri bike, so I do feel your pain! The only thing that helps me is time in the saddle, as others have mentioned, and time out of my aero bars (I awkwardly hold onto the "top tube," often, which takes some finagling, but it helps. If I'm on my trainer, I get off every 20 minutes to do pushup and situps, then when I get back on, it's like I have a new...what should i call it?...soft tissue area (?) to ride on :)
