#I just realized I have not posted in more than 2 weeks! Wow! The thing is, without any races, there is not much to report. Life goes on. Work is busy. Training killed me last week - I put in 19 hours, including a 14 mile progression run @ 7:22 + 1 mile swim on Saturday, and a 4+h ride and 2 mile tempo transition run on Sunday. I am thrilled to have a recovery week. My body has been holding up great except that for the past 2 weeks with an increase in time spent in the pool I have developed a reaction to chlorine. Every time I spend more than 1 hour in the pool I have a stuffy nose and I sneeze the rest of the day. I think all this training is probably lowering my immunity. This week I am going to do my long swim at Walden Pond, assuming that I will survive in the 60 degrees water with my wetsuit and 3 caps. Ha!
# I am officially faster on the bike than my husband. This does not mean, unfortunately, that I am a fast biker. Rather, it means that he is slow! Still, this feels good.
# My husband keeps shoving his 10K PR in my face. He ran a 39:XX about 15 years ago. He challenged me to beat his PR. This would mean running 2 back to back sub 20 min 5K. I think I can do it, actually! So, after my HIM, I am thinking on working on this before I start marathon training. I love the track and I know I am going to miss it by the end of HIM training, since there is really no point right now to try to do track workouts faster than current 10k/HM pace. Now I just have to think of a good reward for this challenge. Hmmm!
# My son had his first professional (aka nonmommy) hair cut this weekend. Chris took him and he called me to warn me that I might not recognize him. His hair is now very short, and he looks so grown up. Still, I can't wait for his hair to grow. I love long hair on boys.
# Today my son asked me where did the first people on Earth came from? And who were they? And how come there are "all of a sudden" so many people on Earth? I am not ready for this kind of conversations.
# I purchased a pair of Saucony Kinvaras and I love them. I am now officially wearing only light minimalist shoes (Brooks Launch, Saucony Kinvaras, Pearl Izumi Streak's, Nike Free's V5 and Nike Frees 7). My feet feel great and I am running strong.
That's it folks! Enjoy your week!

wearing ear plugs will help with the cold water, i get headaches with the first few open water swims.
19 HOURS!!! Wow! Nice run which is really the only part I understand-ha!
God-I know you could go sub 40 especially if that was your focus!! Exciting-I would love to see you do that!!! The only thing I have as a claim to fame on my husband is the marathon and therefore I am a HUGE encourager of him NOT running any more marathons-ha!!
I wanna see your little Dude's hair! Max is growing his back out again. Back to the coarse brillo pad teenwolf hairdo....You are LUCKY to only be dealing with creation questions now girl! The REAL fun stuff awaits-ha!!
I wear the Launch almost exclusively for running, I have the Kinvaras and wear them mostly for everyday shoes but sometimes for running, I also wear the Nike Free 7's on the treadmill sometimes. Love the light shoes!!
ENJOY your recovery week:)
I sneeze a lot after I swim too- mostly after swimming hard in new pools that I'm not used to. I always thought it was the different algae or fungus or something in different pools? I don't know. It's happened for years though and while annoying, I just get over it. I don't think it's anything serious.
Wow, a 19 hour training week is hardcore! Enjoy your recovery time and keep an eye on your immune system.

Marathon Training
You are doing even more hours than I thought!! Nineteen- incredible. You must feel magnificent- well trained and exhausted. :)
oooh- I'd love to see you crank out a fast 10K. Do it! It's fun that your hubby will challenge you like that. I would go for it.
I'd love to be in lighter shoes- Still think I have some adjusting to do. Maybe over time. Still kind of partial to my cushiony trainers. =D. I think it's great that you can wear them. I might try a lighter pair for a 10K or 5k.
Hope you have a great week, A! Rest up!!
i have terrible sneezing fits after swimming! i think its the chlorine but i dont know! go get that 10k sister!
Those are some impressive training hours! Wow, nice work. And I am with you on the minimal/reduced running shoes. As I am slowly coming out of my injury hell, I am looking into lighter shoes with minimal support.
I recently got the Nike Free V3 and there is very low heel to toe drop - LOVE THEM! ALso like the Kinvaras, so cushy. The guy I'm working with said very low heel drop shoes for my situation, helps make the feet stronger.
I say go after your hubby's record and beat him!!! :)
I've been wanting to get here all day! Life has been crazy crazy crazy this week but I am so thankful for quiet right now and time to read your post. Loved it! could relate on several points. First, the hair cut thing. I miss my little man's hair...my husband just buzzed it off again but it was growing out so funny looking but I guess we need to get to that stage before we can see it longer.
Ha, I love this little challenge to beat his 10k time! You totally can do it and what is so freaking awesome is that you believe you can too...this is the key so I think you will do it! When I find myself believing that I CAN then I DO. Almost always. It is getting to the point of really believing that is tricky for me sometimes. I am not good at trying to trick myself...I have to really believe it. So excited to watch you do it.
Um, your training is crazy....I don't even understand it..reading about it makes my head spin. Ha!
I wear my Saucony Kinvara's mostly for just wearing around now because I'm afraid to hurt myself again..I just need to gradually move into them. I'm surprised that the Launch are great on my feet but when I wore the Kinvaras for a 6 miler I had that inner knee pain. Might not have been the shoes.
I hope this comment is still here when I come back. :)
Two weeks! It doesn't seem like it has been that long... 19hrs is a lot of training! And chris better watch out... That 39:xx is going DOWN:)
I love my Nike Frees :)
Go for the sub-40 10k for sure!
You are faster on the bike - I love that one!! Keep it up :)
