(although some family members might refute the title of this post).
1. I swim and bike a lot.
2. I work on my free style stroke. I might have mentioned my water phobia here on this blog. It stems from a childhood incident where I was thrown in the water. I stayed away until 2 summers ago when I taught myself breast stroke and side stroke. This summer I started to teach myself free style. I think I finally got the hang of it which means that if I keep at it, I may actually become competitive in the triathlons. All this Kona fever makes me want to hang out with the cool kids. Of course, I have to "grow up" first.....give me a few years.
3. I drive the marathon course and take a video. I did this early early in the am, with my husband, who has a mild traffic/driving to new places phobia. It was fun.....
4. I eat. I typically lose my appetite during taper, but this time I am hungry all the time. What's up with that. Good thing I never weigh myself (or bad thing...).
5. I play lighthouse monopoly with my son. He always wins. That's good parenting!
6. I play boggle and quidler with my husband. And win. Despite the fact that English is my second language and my husband majored in English at Vassar. Go me!
7. I picture myself running strong, even though during my last tempo run (6 with 3X7:01) my R ITB (I think) was screaming. I am all about denial.
8. I massage and ice my ITB constantly - proof is the ice freeze mark on my knee, and the fact that the entire R side of my R leg is sore.
9. I breath a lot.
10. I think about my marathon to do list, but really don't do anything off of it (like picking outfit, getting some vanilla GU, writing my race plan, making my playlist, etc).
11. I try to figure out how to leave early from my father in law's 70's surprise birthday, which happens to be the day before the marathon. Also related, I try to figure out how not to eat all the sugary and fatty foods that will be served there (because that would mean making best friends with the porta potties the next day) without appearing rude.
12. I work a lot.
13. I think too much. Always dangerous.
14. I talk too much, and too fast. I have WAY too much energy. Poor Chris - between me and Petru, the man needs to buy ear plugs!
15. I sleep a lot.

i hope we can find a way to say hello in person sometime during the marathon. i have been so concerned about my injuries i haven't given the actual day of the marathon much thought!
i signed up for my first triathlon today-and planned out 2010 :)
great post :) you are going to do AWESOME this weekend!!!
i was SO hungry during taper this time it was ridiculous :-/
Did your IT just start flairing up or has it been a chronic problem? I think that, before youre going to have an awesome race, you get a lot of weird pains and pangs and twinges. Before Ironman, my shoulder was killing me for a week! Race day, I felt great.
Yep, you have taper fever...thinking too much, talking too much and being too happy are the very signs of this last stage of this illness(in the marathon cycle!). Sounds normal to me, especially the part about writing out your race plan. How about writing your race "mantras" on little slips of paper or am I the only crazy that does that? Cure? Race!
Sleep a lot is great. The best really.
One thing I am paranoid about during taper is stubbing a toe. Or twisting an ankle, I wear shoes (keens) around the house all day.
Unfortunately for me..my taper schedule will be ...work. Oh, well.
Hope you enjoy the energy (albeit with accompanying restlestness).
I think about the marathon over and over and over and over and...you get the point. I loved your better alternatives.
I'd probably be doing a lot of simliar things, except our household is sick again! Lol! I'd be upset, but seriously it's almost comical! Basically I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping I'll make it to the start line.
Your training has gone so well you don't need to worry so much! Do something silly to pump yourself up. I like to paint my nails a few days before a big race. I pick a crazy color like iron grey, and tell myself it will scare my opponents. It's totally silly and it's the only time I ever paint my nails, but it helps me to transform that nervous energy to excitement.
For #6 - You go girl!!!
Sounds like your actaully calm. Well, except for the chatty cathy part - but that might be normal:) That's good. Denial is good during the taper. Lots of visualization!!
Eat too much, sleep too much, talk too much is pretty much the story of my life. Tapering or otherwise. :o) Just kidding. Have a great weekend!
Good luck with the marathon! I am really amazed by you crazy runners who think 38 miles is an easy week haha- I'd be impressed with myself if I ever did that in 1 week.
good luck for the marathon....
Haha, my list included: having my legs beaten into oblivion at school, memorizing the bones in the human skeleton and all aplicable joint actions, sleeping A LOT and going to Super Wal-mart and Target a bunch!
I like your list better, though . . . namely because of the absence of the legs being beaten into oblivion thing :)
I am starting to get the itch to try triathlon too . . . but I REALLY suck at swimming. Perhaps I'll have to get me a swim coach?
