Update

* School started today and I found myself envious of the herds of kids walking to school in the morning. Although my job has a large learning component, I miss  being in school. My little guy had no issues getting off the door this morning, particularly since his 2 best pals were waiting for him.
Walking to school with his wife. They got married on Tuesday. They want to have 2 kids, a girl named Horse and a boy named Cheetah. She will stay home, he will work as a policeman giving tickets to those who do not respect traffic signs. They will live in Wisconsin (near Dells Water park) and in New Mexico in the winter. They will make the kids do all the chores.

Waiting to cross the street along with new and old friends.

Walking with an old friend before yelling at mom "no more pictures".

* Running is going well. I am up to 50 miles this week and so far so good. I did some strides on the treadmill the other day - first in months - and woke up with DOMS. This made me laugh. Still, it is fascinating to me to see how quickly the body regains speed after some time off, with just easy running. It's like you really do not lose fitness; rather, you think you do, but then a few weeks in you are back to where you were before you took the time off. I am nowhere near where I was yet, but my aerobic pace is definitely improving pretty quickly with not too many miles and no speed work. Sweet!
* I am down to 2 spin classes per week and 1 swim during my day off and will most likely keep these in my schedule. My body feels so good and relaxed after I swim, like I just had a massage (yes, I swim easy!). The spin classes are great quad and glute workouts, better than any strength work for me.
* And yes, I do strength and core 2 times a week. Recently I've incorporated exercises to strengthen my shins and calves. Interestingly these have become issues for me only when I transitioned into a forefoot runner. I would like to go back to a mid foot strike (because I think it may be the least injury related strike) which now I can do only when I wear bulky running shoes, but won't force it.
* Truly excited to vicariously cheer on for the various half and full marathons, as well as Vegas 70.3, IMWI and Kona this fall! Not missing racing yet - probably because my fitness is not at a racing level (for me) right now, but I am starting to think (and getting giddy!) about the possibilities.

I know what you mean about missing school!! ME TOO! I crave it. Recently I've really been thinking that I just might go back in a couple years. How fun would it be to be an English professor?! Or Education professor...I've always wanted this. Probably don't need my doctorate right away either but school has always been fun to me and having a goal like that is kind of crazy to some but so is training for a marathon. Ha! It isn't necessarily about the degree...but more about the process/training in getting there. Anyway, only one of your sentences got me off on this ramble. Love the pics. And love hearing where you are at with running/fitness. 50 miles a week...that is a good amount there! Interested in what you're doing for shins and calves. I think part of this foot thing for me is from trying to change my form too much. MOre later! Miss you. xoxo Tell Petru hil

I've always loved the feeling of going back to school too. So I went back - about 8 years ago and finished my bachelor's (finally) and then loved it so much, turned around and entered a Master's program.

I'm feeling the itch again. Amanda said it right about relating it to marathon goals.

I've never left school and have only had one September (home with my son) when I didn't return to school since I was 5 years old. I also swim easy because that seems to be my ability but I always feel great after. So glad I took it up.

Ah! I would love to go back to school if it were to study whatever I wanted and for free. What a dream.

Petru looks like a kid happy to get back to his friends and his activities. :) He will have a great year!

I love that he is already married. This is funny :) (I had to talk with Nathan about getting married and he won't be marrying anyone until he is able to provide for a wife and children in their own home. SO now he is ready to start working full time :)...back up buddy.) Petru's plan for the kids to do all the chores. This is brilliant! Wonder where he got that from? :))

You are doing great! Even better than I thought with running. This is soooo good. Yes, the easy paces are good! Certainly you will be flat FLYING down the trails and courses there in MA very soon. I can't wait.

Nice to see you enjoying your running again and doing so well at 50M - this is definitely encouraging!

Oh missing school - I do! I have to fight the urge to keep going back and actually follow through on what I've started. But I do keep learning and I love that.

Interesting re your views on changing your stride - despite years of trying to change I've remained a generally injury free heel striker and I think I'm just going to stick with it...

First day of school!!! Hope Petru had a super day! A girl named "horse". Hmmm-I'm not visualizing a tiny blonde here-ha ha! I completely remember those playground weddings. I married a boy named Shannon with red hair and freckles! Love the pics:)

50 miles-SUPER! So glad to hear things going well for you! Yes, spin is so awesome. Lots of spin for me this winter!! No ice or snow or frozen snot and eyelashes on a spin bike-yay!!

Hope you have a super weekend and congrats on the comeback week here!!

doesn't this time of year make you want to buy 20 yellow pencils just so you can sharpen them? and listen to "Nightswimming" by REM. And eat crisp macintosh apples. And run cross country...

This is my first year since I officially graduated and have no school work to do and I do not miss back to school at all!!! :)

Oh, I wish I could call 50miles/week "not too many miles"...
Glad that you are back at running.
