When I started this blog many years ago I was not interested in followers (I still am not, sorry!). I was not interested in making connections. I simply wanted to write anonymously, document my training, and have a record of my running(s) and living(s). It took me over 4 years of blogging to even consider responding to a comment; when I received a couple of emails after my first marathon in 2009, I thought it was kind of weird. I felt perfectly content in my personal life, with enough friends and family to consider letting anyone from the blog in. Ha! How things have changed. I am now emailing almost daily with 2 women I met via this blog, who have become very close friends.
I virtually trained with Jenn for Baystate 2011 and rapidly became able to share private details of my life that typically take me years to share. Perhaps because we are so similar. I am looking forward to the time when we will be able to both train for something without one of us getting injured. I am also looking forward to our sweat contest - you see, she think she actually sweats more than I do, ha, ha, ha! Jenn is someone who puts a lot of thought into every aspect of her life. She is a no nonsense, no excuses super busy person who somehow always makes time for those who are important to her. Oh, and she is also very hot.
Sometime early 2012, I think, I started to exchange emails with Amanda. It was Boston 2012, however, that really sealed my friendship with her. Amanda and I are very different in many ways. She carries emotions on her face while I often choose not to show my emotions. She is a free spirit while I am more of an analytic thinker. But Amanda won me over with her big heart, genuineness, and incredible ability to connect. She is a ball of energy and sexy muscles. You think you know her from the first meeting, but girl's got layers and depth and wisdom beyond her years.
After many many emails we finally met in Boston 2 weeks ago. Amanda arrived earlier and she and I waited for Jenn (whom none of us had met before) pacing around the airport. And then we got home and talked nonstop in my living room from 12 noon to 2:30am. Boom! It was easy conversation, and we covered topics from G to NR17 and more. There were no hang ups. Everyone was comfortable getting food, sleeping late or waking up early, emailing or talking. It was truly perfect. We walked the streets of Boston, shopped for jeans, ate a few bags of chips and a pound of dark chocolate, ran some, ate some more.... Several bottles of wine and some beers disappeared in the process. Sometime Saturday night I fell asleep on the armchair while these 2 played dress up and took pictures for a dear friend who could not make the trip (sorry, none of those will be posted!). We went to bed at 4am.
In no particular order:
Jenn and Amanda!
Jenn and I - the dark circles under my eyes clearly show that I
need my 8hs of sleep!
Jenn and I
Amanda - this little bundle of muscle - showed us some of her talents!
She can also do 10 pull up in a row, thank you very much!
Monday morning came too soon and I feel that there were so many topics I wanted to cover and did not get to. Next time for sure. In the meantime, really thankful for this little blog and for the email to continue our friendship!

Ahhh , I Love love love this. really so honored to have made my way into your heart/life. You've always just been that wise, hard assed AM and then slowly, I got to know the personal side....I feel so so lucky. What a GREAT trip. And yes, so relaxed and easy. The perfect balance. I think we all complimented each other perfectly....the eating, running, relaxed conversation...no agenda except to spend time together. Thanks for the perfect bed for me too...Well, tell Petru thank you. And honestly, the weather was a great temp despite the rain and grey at times. I melt in heat. But unlike you two, I only sweat on a normal level.....I don't squirt buckets! ha ha. I could hardly believe it when I woke up and came out to find you two so soaking wet...it looked like you'd run through hoses on your way home. Ha! No wonder you guys eat salt with a spoon. :)
and 10?! You are much much too kind to me AM. but good for my ego so I think I'll keep you around. Ha! That's the believer in you....I think I only got 7 when I was there...maybe squeaked in 8 but maybe just barely if I did. But 10 isn't far.
So glad for this crazy blog/e-mail world. I'm certain that I have friends/family who think I sound so weird when I tell them that some of my best friends are friends I just officially "met". Cool how life works out.
Okay, enough of my book. Gotta unpack from my Boston trip...yup, still haven't unpacked since I went on family vacation right away and just got home. Then time for some Olympic action. Waylon says that the women's 1500 was on today? Hmmm....
Oh, and walking behind you and Jenn in Boston made up for the rain and clouds. No JOKE....I couldn't stop snapping pictures of your chiseled bods..ha ha...and darn if you guys didn't make me want to drop some money at lulu so that I can have shirts just like you! :)
Hey you! Smiling so big reading this and missing you!! OK-next time we get together we are going to settle this for once and for all. 5 miles-ALL out and then we will stand in one spot and see who makes the biggest puddle! Really, I would bet my 401K on the fact that my puddle will be bigger!!!!
I was laughing today remembering that old guy when we were coming back from our run. Hubba hubba hubba-ha ha!
Yes, absolutely relaxed!!! Loved that I could just dig in your cupboards for coffee and think nothing of it! Testament to the fact that we were all very close, very REAL friends even if it was through email! You were also an amazing hostess totally setting us up with perfect quality food and perfect wine-induced "lack of judgement" food-ha!!!
Yes, NO hangups. Pretty sure we covered it all!
I actually love these pictures:) I want a better picture of your tight ass in those hot new jeans though!
Amanda-yes you did do 10 I think. You stopped and then did some with your hands the other way!! Very thankful I did not take on that challenge.
Really really can't wait for next time!! Loved his post. Thanks for letting me "in". LOVE you!
I just realized you haven't even changed your 5K PR on your sidebar!!! Get on that!
Can't really put it all in words here, but I am glad to see the photos of your sweet reunion. :)The stories you will share are going to last a lifetime.
Two of you I have still not met... One is definitely a unique GEM of a person.
It's funny to me that it took you so long to open up to comments on your blog. I don't mind doing it on a blog, much easier to keep it to training and not personal for me. No risk, no reward though!
Thanks for posting the photos. I enjoyed reading all the comments here too.
hugs-
R
You are blessed! Such great ladies!!
I meant that the one i HAVE met in person is a GEM, but of course, the other two are equally precious. I am quitting now before I make my comments even more confusing.
@ Raina - I am a very private person, but you are right, no risks, no rewards:)
It sounds like it was a wonderful, relaxing and inspiring visit for all of you and it seems you all have different things to contribute = wonderful friendship. Blogging friendships have proved incredibly valuable to me over time!
Blogging is how I met you! It was so weird the first time we met up to run, I was all "Nick, I'm going running with this person I met on the Internet...don't worry, I'm pretty sure I won't be murdered or anything."
So glad you got to meet Jenn and Amanda! Sounds like you guys had a great time!
@Katie - I know! I don't even remember how we got to running together. I remember feeling so intimidated! And now...I can't wait to run with you again!!!
Great post! My goal this year was to put my blog out there more instead of just my close friends. And I am too venturing out to meet other bloggers. I don't know if it will work out as it did with you and your two friends, but you never know.
i can't say enough how much i love the three of you getting together!! you guys are all so alike (and awesome) but yet different of course too. and whoa, watch out boston, three hot mamas on the prowl! glad you had a great time. blogging surprised me too - never thought i'd make good friends out of it. it's nice to think people out there are interested in my random drivel but i'm not out to gain 10,000 followers - i like my smaller group of core friends!
