Marathon training week 1 in random fashion

Stats: 62 miles (planned for 58, but I think I'll get Petru to add my miles next time, ha!)

Runs: 1 MP (5), 1 tempo (3@ HMP), 1 interval (8X2min @ 10Kpace), 1 long (16), 2 easy.

My foot has been bugging me. Some tendon in the arch needs to behave.

I gained 3 lbs since before the taper for the HIM.

I suck at running long. I struggled through 16 miles this past week.

The heat/humidity and I need to find a way to get along, meaning I need to start running super early in the morning.

I am loving just running (OK, I do bike and swim a bit, but no more 3-4 hour bike rides and I do not miss them).

Running fast and short (relatively) is easier for me then running long.

I need longer and longer warm-ups.

I plan to go back to Fresh Pond Races in August. Right now, it would be rather sad...

I have no idea how I ran a 6:46 average pace for 13.1 miles. Or a 6:16 average pace for 3.1 miles. Running 2X15 min @ HM pace was not easy for me today in 94 degrees. Blah!

Seriously though, I am super excited to train for this marathon. This is early in the game and the hardest part of training in some sense. So thankful and happy to be running!

Happy 4th!

I knew it would not take long before you start to be excited about training again!
You are at 62miles in your first week? What do you plan your max weekly mileage to be? I think that you have mentioned 70-80. It still holds?

You really do not miss biking and swimming?

Well, AM, you've been down this marathon road so many times and know that it's still so early and it's also so freaking hot - both of those do a number to your pace. You will get it, I have no doubt!

I got on my bike today for the first time after that Century and I thought I'd really be eager to get out there and ride again. Um, not so much. TIRED! I am in awe of you who can run so far and then bike. Kudos to you!!!

And no more complaining about pace...well ok, you can :), but just be grateful you aren't me running a pathetic 10:54 pace for my run. Egads, this is ridiculous!!

Have a great 4th of July!!!

@MMMonyka - I do not miss biking, and love swimming OW, no pressure, in fact, I swim almost every night. Yes, if my body holds up, 70-75 will be my max

Running in 94 degrees! A big yuck!

94 degrees is so hot; I think the upper 70's are hot! I like being able to focus on just running and not worry about a lot of biking

haha your week 1 is more than i've ever done! Great job at Patriot!! I did that one 2 years ago! I loved it! COngrats on finishing 4th in your age group. When i did it there were only 2 people in my age group, lol so I only had to beat 1 person. Great job! I hope to be back there next yer!

I bet you are darn close to that 6:46 HM pace right now in cool temps. It's just hot out. You are running fantastic in this heat!! And you know this but you don't suck at running long. Short and fast feels easier because you spent all winter training shorter and fast:) When this is all said and done, you will be saying "I ROCK at running long!"

Take care of your foot! And I feel like a winner because I'm beating you on pounds gained during taper and recovery:) YAY!!!

Congrats on one week of training down! I suck at running long too...

Yes Jenn, but you are also beating me at being disciplined about losing the poundage. I just want my cake and want to eat it too, ha!

So excited to live vicariously through you as you get ready for this marathon. And I hear you, I haven't missed biking or swimming, sadly for almost a year now.

I'm terrified to train for a marathon again! I'll just live through you.

Isn't life so much easier with just marathon training? It's funny to go back to before the HIM and think about how much time just marathoning took up. Now it's a break!

It's so early. Your body is not meant to be "on" all the time. 62 miles the first week. How far away is the marathon? I'd say your doing pretty well so far.

Finally time to comment!!

You are cranking out those miles, AM! Wow!! That Petru could probably write me a schedule I am guessing :)

Yeah- you east coasters have some serious heat and muggy conditions to contend with- even early on. Makes it even more impressive when you can maintain MP or get in 60+ miles.
I'd love to see the plan you are using. Do I need to buy Hudson's book?

Hope you get a cool breeze today!
