Bullet points

* A huge thank you for the GREAT advice on base training. Since then, I've done my homework (aka read a bit on the subject) and have come to the conclusion that...big surprise...people do base differently. Most focus on technique and strength. Some do only easy work. Others add some intensity. It seems like the new trend is to have some intensity sprinkled into training - strides and hill sprints, and big chain on the bike and high cadence sprints. Everyone focuses on their weakness.

* I know that the best course of action for me as a triathlete would be to focus on biking and swimming, and run less. But, I make a conscious decision to continue putting in the running miles because I love it and it allows me to socialize for a bit before actual hard training starts. I did not realize it at the time, but I missed that aspect of training. I don't have a swim/bike network like I have for running. I think that I can still put in a strong base for swimming and biking, and will def increase that after my half marathon races.

* I started doing some big chain intervals and boy, my legs are screaming at me. LOVE IT!!!

* I am picking up my bike from the shop today. I am a little (?) disappointed that I did not finish my bike fitting. Jay is too busy with his real job and is no longer doing fitting. So he dumped me. This means that I got 2h free bike advice, but also that I will have to, for now, use the bike as is, without the detailed fit I wanted. At least I know I bought the right size bike - for now, that should do it!

* I am loving the fact that my 5 year old arranges playdated for himself. I love to have his little friends over, and even more when he goes to their houses and Chris and I get some free time. This Sunday will go biking together - I'll be on my tri bike and lets just say I am a little nervous.

* I am curious, do people like Thanksgiving? I am not big on cooking, on eating Tg food, on having a 2-3 hour long meal and watching football. Plus this year I am in no shape (by choice) to do a Turkey Trot. As far as being thankful, I feel I am thankful every single day for what I have, do not take anything for granted, and am fully aware that everything can be swept from under my feet at any given moment.

* And to end on a funny note, after my previous bullet point....my son keeps asking what he will get for Thanksgiving and told me the other day how he wants to skip all these holidays and get to Christmas so he could get stuff. As for me, I'd happily fastforward to New Years if it weren't for Petru. I think Chris's hatred of materialism is rubbing onto me! Oops, guess this is not a happy funny ending...

Sounds like you are taking all the right steps to gear up for a great year. And you'll be suprised how quickly you adjust to a tri bike.

As for Thanksgiving, I don't enjoy the meal at all but I like the family time together. One year we just decided to have chili and that was my favorite thanksgiving ever.

I actually like Thanksgiving but as it's an American festival we only celebrate it with American friends in the UK and so it's not like I see it around me everywhere... I like having a big meal without the presents - my kids are like Petru about Christmas but I'm beginning to turn into Chris and yourself about the whole thing. TOO TOO TOO much!

Shame about the bike fitting but at least you're on the right sized bike - I'm sure you can find someone to help further?

I could not agree more with your son.. bring on the presents ha! I do like Thanksgiving, mainly because of no work and lots of family and food!

Such a kid thing to wonder what they will get for Thanksgiving. Hilarious!! Glad you're training's off to a strong start.

sorry about the bike fitting, that kind of stinks.

I like Thanksgiving when someone else is cooking! I do love all the TG food though.

I wish my son planned his own playdates, cuz I really suck at it. It is a good thing he has a sitter who does or he would never see his friends!

Love all your points:

for me, i'm digging the base training of focusing on ST and technique on my run and bike. For my runs I only focus on my cadence (i use a tempo trainer) and for bike, same thing.

and yah...my lil 4 (soon to be 5 yr olds) are too cute on their playdates. but i haven't had a sunday afternoon one so the DH and i could get a date in!!! Now that rocks!!

Too bad about bike fitting. But at least you got part of it done and for free!
I can't wait to hear about your first tri bike ride.

Being a non-American, I have never experienced a real Thanksgiving dinner, but I like days off from school and I used to work at pie sale and I loved taking some of those pies home with me. I ate nothing but pies for the whole weekend:)
This year I am going to Vegas, so not very Thansgivingly:)

I am SO with you on the last comment..hate all the materialism shoved down our throats right now.

One more reason to be heavy on the running right now--it's just so much easier in cooler temps compared to the bike!

I agree with your son, let's skip all these holiday and get to the real stuff - presents :). Hahah. I don't like to stuff myself silly and sit around feeling sick for hours - bleh. I'm not doing the Turkey Trot either, can't stand to pay for something I'm doing to do crappy in. Hope you love the new bike :).

I like Thanksgiving, but I'm one of the weird ones who actually loves cooking the meal for my family. :) I could skip it though and go right to Christmas like your son though!

I loved your confessions! They made me laugh so hard.

you can do thanksgiving however you want (my family has never watched football). i do like getting together with family (and friends, later over the weekend) for a good meal and hanging out. i don't need a monster-sized meal though!

I go through so much PB too! I am jealous of your two times a day work-outs. I love it when I get to do that! Happy Fridaiy.

Pretty soon, people are going to be calling the Queen of the Big Ring!!!

You are in no shape to do a turkey trot? Bullsh*t-ha!!! You just hold yourself to a high standard! Then again, I guess that's one of the things I admire most about you!

Thanksgiving. Yep-that's a sucky one for kids. No Valentine's, Easter Candy, Trick or Treating....Bring on the presents! I LOVE Christmas but it's all about the kids for me too! I could care less if I got a thing but I just love seeing their excitement!

Thanks!
Yeah, we are way to dependent on high-tech gadgets these days.
But I have learnt my lesson today!!!
