How I loved running in the rain

The (yet again) heavy rain on Thursday afternoon threatened my 8 mile post work run. Oh, no, I needed to run. Lots of pent up nervous energy waiting to be released. As I walked home from the bus station, with my bag on my head as to shield me from rain, I did not feel excited about the run. I knew I had to get out there, since I had skipped Wednesday's run in order to attend my son's picnic party. And then I had the brilliant idea - wear my new swimming gear on the run. And so I did. Two weeks ago, in preparation for a "secrete race" I purchased a pair of swimming jammers (aka short tights) and swimming long sleeved shirt, on line at http://www.swimoutlet.com/ *. As I headed out for the run, I looked ready to swim, minus the goggles and swim cap (I wore a baseball cap instead). I ended up having an amazing, run. Although my hat was not up to par and got socked, my tights and shirt kept me dry and happy. I had a glorious 8 miler, with the last 2 miles at an effortless 7:00min/mile. I had the bikepath all to myself and felt a real connection with nature, no headphones, just me, the run and the rain. Beautiful!

* you should check this out, they've got running clothes, too - check "clearance". Oh, and they should totally sponsor me!

I did speedwork last week in a downpour. I was dreading it too, but it was so warm out that it felt great! good job on the run!

What a genious idea. I do like running in the rain too sometimes. I am so glad you didn't bother with the treadmill. I never understand why people would rather run on the dreadmill instead of get a little wet.
