It's FALL!

I love the beautiful Fall weather. Nothing like running on colored leaves and smelling the crisp air...and not getting drenched in your own sweat, yuck!

It's been an interesting time since my last post. I have done a lot of running, and even completed a running streak! Look at that!

After almost 5 years of intense racing, it has been so freeing to let go of goals and just run. Initially I thought I would slack and the absence of a goal would make me choose to sip on an extra cup of coffee rather than go out and run, but that did not happen. Instead, I ran almost daily, mostly without a watch, sometimes for 4 miles only, other times for 15 (although lately 12 miles has been my longest run), sometimes on asphalt but mostly on trails. Happy Running!

Most of my runs have been easy, though once in a while I turn on my Garmin for a mile or so and am mostly pleasantly surprised by my pace, given that I have done no speed in many months, and my only tempo runs have consisted of attempts to keep up with my 8 year old's biking.

Not racing this summer has led to many family adventures including an amazing trip to Paris for my birthday

Looks there was even a race in Jardin de Luxemburg!
 Me with my lovies!
My boy in front of our studio!
My happy traveler already planning a trip to Japan (and a job to pay for said trip!).

Life is good. Running without racing can be awesome. Who knew?

Happy Birthday late! I forgot about your plan to go to Paris. What an adventure!!
Look at P. He is growing so much. When is he taking you to Japan? Will this be from his water slide profits?

So, you are a master's runner now :) And you are mastering the JOY of the run. That is a lovely streak :) It's a nice thing for the legs to be doing trails.. and will build some good speed in pleasant sort of way. Would love to come on out and run some of the fells with you. :)

So glad to see you update!

Raina, I hope you are planning on being here for Boston. We can go run the Fells, it will be a blast!

It's hard to take the watch up for former running freaks, but man once you do (after awhile) it just become so liberating. Especially if you can run on the trails some. The roads are banging up my legs this fall after spending so much earlier time this year on the trails.

Happy belated birthday, AM! Nice to see you had a great trip. Keep up the blog!!! :)

I totally get not racing. After high school and college, I didn't think I'd race again, but I ran or exercised everyday. I'm sort of in love with racing right now, though in a different way than I was a few years ago.

Do you think you'll pick up racing again? I'd love to run Boston with you at some point. You know, like a relaxed, but strong pace...or maybe Mt. Washington...that would be fun too.

Love the pics!

How wonderful that you got to go to Paris! I love racing and don't see myself stopping as that is what keeps me running. But these days my heart is with tris and that is what I care about. I plan to do less halves next year because long runs aren't what I want to do (long in my world). I want to be biking in the summer. What fun to race in another country. Hope all is well with Petra and he is enjoying school.

Ooh! An AM post! Yay!! I'm sitting in a hockey rink and it feels FAR more like winter than fall-ha!

Holy streaks!! Gosh, you are running a ton of miles!! Impressive for not training! I am nervous to run with you-ha!

I seem to struggle in letting the Garmin go. I've done it but I'm just too damn curious to let it go for long. Even when I'm not training for anything, I just like to know:) Good for you!!! And good to see a post from you! Love the pics:)

Wow, an AM post. I would have missed it if I hadn't been playing around with my blog roll! Good to see you write. I love the way you're seeing running right now...that's one of the best things about my summer...just keeping running low key and fun. But here we go...about to ramp up again. Soon enough. Can't wait to see you in Boston (or sooner ;) )

I love it! I'm impressed with how much running you've done without a goal - that's interesting and quite inspirational.

As for your trip to Paris - that looks great! And I'm also planning a trip to Japan sometime when I have enough money ... XXX
